As of January 1, 2018, new California Legislation made it easier for homeowners to add an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) to most single-family residential zones. (See CA SB-229 and CA AB-494.) The new State legislation allows an ADU up to 1,200 sf and relaxes a number of previous parking and building conversion regulations.
